Supply Chain Manager – Birla Cosmetics

The role is based at Mumbai. The Supply Chain Manager will work very closely with the CEO/Supply Chain Head to create shareholder value by providing the vision, leadership, strategy, and general management skills necessary to grow the company into a dominant player in its industry. 

Business Context and Opportunities

Aditya Birla Group is getting into Cosmetics industry and will be launching its lipstick and perfume brand. The business aims to capture 5% of the market share in the next years for both lipstick and perfume business respectively. 

Currently, the lipstick market in India is worth INR 4,153 Cr and perfume market is worth about INR 2500 Cr. Both the industries are pegged to grow at a 9% growth rate annually and while the competition is high, there is scope for creating product differentiation and capture market. Consumers are increasingly becoming conscious of what products they choose and with the rising disposable income of middle class, it’s a great opportunity space.  

Position Purpose and Summary 

The Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for managing the supply chain for a new cosmetic company. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of products to customers, optimizing inventory levels, and developing a robust supply chain network.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for cosmetics and a drive to succeed. The Supply Chain Manager will be expected to work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the successful launch and growth of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership:

  • Proven experience as Supply Chain Manager in online and offline space.
  • Will work closely with the top tier management team dedicated to developing, manufacturing, and selling world-class products.
  • Will act as the key face of the company, develop new customers and channels to market and manage existing customer and channel partner relationships.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and ensure that overall revenue and profit goals are achieved, and shareholder value is delivered. 

KRAs:

  • Develop and implement supply chain strategies to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of products to customers.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and logistics providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and negotiate contracts to ensure the best value for the company.
  • Develop and implement a quality control program to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop and implement a sustainability strategy that minimizes the environmental impact of the company's supply chain.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as product development and sales, to ensure alignment of supply chain efforts.
  • Develop and maintain a robust supply chain network that is scalable as the company grows.
  • Monitor and analyze supply chain metrics to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.

Person Profile & Education Qualification

  1. Candidate should have an overall experience of 5-8 years. Mostly in the FMCG space.
  2. Master’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field from a tier – 1 institute.
  3. 3+ years of experience in supply chain management, preferably in the cosmetics industry.
  4. Preferably should have worked in companies like HUL, Lakme, Loreal, new brands like Gush, Kay Beauty, Plum, Mamaearth etc.
  5. Experience with marketplaces is also preferred – Nykaa, Myntra, Purplle
  6. Strong understanding of supply chain processes and logistics.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
  8. Knowledge of the cosmetics industry, including trends, products, and competitors.
  9. Experience in managing inventory levels and optimizing supply chain networks.
  10. Experience in developing and implementing quality control programs.
  11. Experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies is preferred.
